Taxon description
Gatunek szeroko rozprzestrzeniony w całej Europie, w Fennoskandii sięgający po skrajne obszary północne, a na wschód przez Syberię docierający do wybrzeży Oceanu Spokojnego. Rytownik dwuzębny występuje pospolicie na całym obszarze Polski; nie notowany dotychczas ze Wzgórz Trzebnickich i Tatr. Głównym żywicielem tego chrząszcza jest sosna, spotykany poza tym na świerku, jodle, modrzewiu, kosodrzewinie, wejmutce i daglezji. Opada głównie drobne fragmenty drzewa, włącznie do cienkich gałązek, również leżących na ziemi, niekiedy atakuje młode drzewka w zagajnikach i uprawach. Chodniki macierzyste o 3-5 ramionach. Żerowisko typu gwiaździstego wyraźnie odbija się w bielu. Larwy żerują zwykle pod cienką korą, przed przepoczwarczeniem wgryzają się w drewno, gdzie budują komorę poczwarkową. Gatunek ten zimuje w stadium owada dojrzałego.
