Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1992:
Gatunek rozsiedlony w środkowej i północnej części Europy, w Fennoskandii sięgający do skrajnych obszarów północnych, a na wschód do Jakucji na Syberii. Rytownik czterozębny w Polsce jest szeroko rozpowszechniony na całym niżu i na podgórzach, nie notowany jeszcze z niektórych krain południowych. Głównym żywicielem jest sosna pospolita, rzadziej występuje na świerku, kosodrzewinie, limbie i sośnie czarnej. Opada zarówno górną część strzały i gałęzie starszych drzew stojących, jak i młode drzewa oraz leżaninę. Żerowiska typu gwiaździstego głęboko wygryzione w bielu.
