Taxon description
Gatunek zamieszkujący głównie południową i środkową Europę, na północ docierający do południowych części Anglii i Finlandii oraz Karelskiej SRR. W Polsce chrząszcz rzadko spotykany, z większości krain od dawna nie notowany. Znajdowany przeważnie na piaszczysto-gliniastych pobrzeżach rzek i potoków pod napływkami, gnijącymi szczątkami roślinnymi i odchodami krowimi, niekiedy również na wilgotnych miejscach w dołach po wybranej glinie oraz na torfowiskach.
