Taxon description
Gatunek znany głównie ze środkowej Europy, wykazywany ponadto z nielicznych stanowisk w Anglii, Danii, południowej części Fennoskandii, Francji, południowo-wschodnich Włoch i Bośni. W Polsce rzadko i sporadycznie spotykany. Żyje w starych, dziuplastych drzewach liściastych, zwłaszcza zasiedlonych przez gnieżdżące się ptaki, spotykany również w gniazdach chomików, w murszu drzew w sąsiedztwie gniazd mrówek Lasius fuliginosus (Latr.) i L. brunneus (Latr.), niekiedy także w gniazdach mrówek poza drzewami.
