Taxon description
Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony od Azji Środkowej poprzez Azję Mniejszą i południowo-wschodnią Europę po Podole, Austrię, Czechosłowację, Szwajcarię i północne Włochy. W Polsce dotychczas nie stwierdzony, ale może być odnaleziony w południowej części kraju, gdyż znany jest z ośmiu stanowisk na Słowacji. Według S. Smreczyńskiego (1960) informacja o znalezieniu tego chrząszcza w Białowieży była mylna. Żyje na prawoślazie ogrodowym — Althaea rosea L. Larwa żeruje 4-6 tygodni w jednym nasieniu. Przed przepoczwarczeniem robi otwór w ściance nasienia i zalepia go białą wydzieliną. Postać dojrzała przez ten otwór wydobywa się na zewnątrz na początku sierpnia lub we wrześniu.
