Gatunek śródziemnomorski, rozprzestrzeniony od południowej Francji do Półwyspu Bałkańskiego, docierający na północ do Dalmacji, Krainy i Słowenii. W krajach środkowej Europy nie występuje, z Austrii notowano go tylko na podstawie zawleczonych okazów. W Polsce z całą pewnością nie został stwierdzony. Dwie wzmianki sprzed przeszło stu lat o występowaniu tego gatunku na Śląsku nie znalazły później potwierdzenia w wykazie chrząszczy śląskich (Gerhardt 1910). Zasiedla tereny górzyste na niższych wysokościach, docierając do około 1300 m n.p.m. Rozwój odbywa w różnych gatunkach klonów — Acer L. oraz w jesionach — Fraxinus L. i olszach — Alnus Mill. Rójka chrząszczy odbywa się w pełni lata.
