Taxon description
Obszar rozsiedlenia tego gatunku obejmuje głównie południową i środkową część Europy, na północ sięgający po Wyspy Brytyjskie, Danię i południową Skandynawię; na wschód docierający do Irkucka i północnego Iranu, notowany ponadto z Maroka i Balearów. Ogłodek wiązowiec w Polsce jest rozpowszechniony na całym niżu i na podgórzach. Kornik ten żeruje głównie na wiązach, rzadko i sporadycznie spotykano go na dębach, grabie, topoli czarnej, wierzbach, jesionie, orzechu i leszczynie. Opada zarówno pnie, jak i gałęzie; w czasie żeru uzupełniającego w koronach drzew roznosi zarodniki pasożytniczego grzyba. Chodnik macierzysty jednoramienny, długości do 10 cm i szerokości 2-3 mm. Liczne chodniki larwalne długości do 15 cm, gęsto i dość regularnie ułożone, przebiegają w górę i w dół. Żerowiska zaznaczają się wyraźniej w korze niż w bielu. W przypadku żerowiska pod grubą korą komory poczwarkowe są budowane w drewnie.
