Taxon description
Gatunek notowany z nielicznych stanowisk w Europie, a rozmieszczenie ogólne poznane jest niedostatecznie z powodu utrzymujących się niejasności systematycznych. Przez niektórych autorów jest uważany jedynie za odmianę S. (P.) suturalis Thunb., od którego ma się różnić ciemnym ubarwieniem. Jest to prawdopodobnie jego biotyp, gdyż poławiano go przeważnie na wierzbach, a S. suturalis wyłącznie na drzewach iglastych, szczególnie na sosnach. W Polsce jest znany tylko z ośmiu krain, przeważnie z pojedynczych stanowisk. Omawiany chrząszcz występuje głównie na wierzbach i topolach rosnących na miejscach wilgotnych w lasach łęgowych i na pobrzeżach wód. Zimujące okazy znajdowano w ściółce, próchnicy wierzbowej oraz pod opadłymi liśćmi.
