Taxon description
Pospolity gatunek rozprzestrzeniony w prawie całej Palearktyce, docierający w Europie do koła podbiegunowego. W Polsce występuje od wybrzeży Bałtyku aż po Sudety i Karpaty. Oprzędzik pręgowany zasiedla pola, łąki, murawy, przy droża, skarpy nasypów, pobrzeża lasu, miejsca ruderalne, ogrody i trawniki miejskie. Postacie dojrzałe spotykano w ciągu całego roku, od maja do września na roślinach, w pozostałych miesiącach przeważnie pod opadłym listowiem, w kępach trawy, ściółce, wśród mchów i na glebie pod szczątkami roślinnymi. Jako rośliny żywicielskie podawane są liczne rośliny motylkowate rosnące dziko lub uprawiane z rodzajów: koniczyna — Trifolium L., lucerna — Medicago L., groch — Pisum L., wyka — Vicia L., seradela — Ornithopus L., groszek — Lathyrus L., wilżyła — Ononis L., komonica — Lotus L., nostrzyk — Melilotus Hill. oraz fasola zwykła — Phaseolus vulgaris L., rutwica lekarska — Galega officinalis L. i żarnowiec miotlasty — Sarothamnus scoparius (L.) Wimm. Oprzędzik pręgowany może niekiedy wyrządzać poważne szkody w uprawach koniczyny, lucerny oraz grochu, na którym niszczy całkowicie liście. Samica w lipcu składa ogółem do 1000 jaj do gleby lub na liście roślin żywicielskich, skąd wiatrem lub deszczem są zrzucane na glebę; w ciągu dnia może być złożone do 60 jaj. Larwy początkowo żerują w bulwkach korzeniowych, następnie w silniejszych korzeniach. Rozwój larwalny przebiega w ciągu 30-55 dni. Przeobrażanie w poczwarkę następuje w komorze glebowej na głębokości 1-5 cm. Stadium poczwarki trwa 2-3 tygodnie.
