Taxon description
Gatunek rozprzestrzeniony w Europie od krajów śródziemnomorskich aż do południowych części Anglii i Fennoskandii, docierający na wschód przez Syberię do Mandżurii, Kamczatki, Sachalinu i Japonii, wykazywany ponadto z Kaukazu, Armenii i północnego Iranu. W Polsce występuje prócz wyższych partii górskich prawdopodobnie na całym obszarze, ale nie jest jeszcze znany z niektórych krain. Zamieszkuje drzewostany liściaste i mieszane. Postacie dojrzałe ukazują się w czerwcu i przeżywają do sierpnia, a największe nasilenie pojawu przypada na lipiec. Chrząszcze wykazują aktywność w czasie ciepłych dni, kiedy to odbywają loty w poszukiwaniu kwiatów, na których odżywiają się pyłkiem i kopulują; spotyka się je na tawułach — Spiraea L., jarząbach — Sorbus L., malinach — Rubus L., barszczach — Heracleum L., marchwiach — Daucus L. i in. Samice składają jaja w szczeliny martwego drewna brzóz — Betula L., dębów — Quercus L., olsz — Alnus Mill., lip — Tilia L., leszczyny — Corylus L. Opadane są uschnięte pnie tych drzew, zwłaszcza w części przykorzeniowej, obnażone korzenie oraz leżanina. Cykl rozwojowy co najmniej dwuletni.
