Taxon description
Gatunek zasiedlający wschodnią część Europy, na północ sięgający po północną Skandynawię i półwysep Kola, na południe po północne Włochy i Korsykę. W Polsce kornik ten należy do rzadkości, notowany dotychczas tylko z dwu krain. Żeruje pod korą olszy czarnej i olszy szarej. Samica drąży w korze chodnik macierzysty w postaci nieregularnej komory poprzecznej i odchodzących od niej krótkich chodników.
