Taxon description
Gatunek szeroko rozprzestrzeniony w południowej i środkowej części Europy, na północ docierający do Szwecji, Finlandii i Karelii, wykazywany także z Kaukazu, Azji Mniejszej i Iranu. W Polsce, choć nie znany jeszcze z niektórych krain, występuje prawdopodobnie na całym obszarze. Zasiedla tereny nizinne i niższe położenia górskie, zwłaszcza występuje w dolinach rzecznych. Rozwój larwalny odbywa w wilgotnym, zmurszałym drewnie drzew liściastych, głównie topól i wierzb. Larwy żerują również w stykających się bezpośrednio z ziemią gałęziach, złomach i pieńkach. Postacie dojrzałe poławiano od maja do września, najczęściej w miejscach nasłonecznionych, na kwiatach tawuły — Spiraea L., mięty — Mentha L., marchwi — Carota L. i świerząbka — Chaerophyllum L.
