Taxon description
Szeroko rozmieszczony w Europie prócz Hiszpanii, docierający w Skandynawii do skrajnych prowincji północnych, ponadto zawleczony do Ameryki Północnej. W Polsce notowany głównie ze stanowisk położonych na terenach nizinnych i wyżynnych. Zasiedla głównie piaszczyste miejsca na polach, pastwiskach, miedzach, przydrożach, pobrzeżach lasu i w zaroślach. Żyje na rdeście ptasim — Polygonum aviculare L. i szczawiu tępolistnym — Rumex obtusifolius L. Samice składają jaja w kwietniu i maju. Larwy żerują w korzeniach i szyi korzeniowej, następnie opuszczają miejsca żerowania i przepoczwarczają się w glebie.
