Gatunek rozmieszczony głównie w Europie Południowej oraz na izolowanych, ciepłych stanowiskach w Europie środkowej, notowany ponadto z Afryki Północnej, Kaukazu i obszarów wokół Morza Kaspijskiego. W Polsce znany z nielicznych, rozproszonych stanowisk w różnych częściach kraju. Larwy żerują w rozkładającym się drewnie gałęzi krzewów i drzew liściastych oraz iglastych. Postacie dojrzałe ukazują się wiosną i poławiane są do lipca; przeważnie występują one na pobrzeżach lasu, porębach i polanach śródleśnych — na starych pniakach, złomach, kłodach oraz na kwiatach.
