Taxon description
Heintze 1990:
Motyl dość pospolity, o wielkiej zmienności rysunku i ubarwienia, lata od V do VIII. Gąsienice, przypominające kształtem kolczaste gałązki tarniny, żerują od VIII do V z przerwą na sen zimowy na różnych gatunkach drzew liściastych jak wierzby, głogi, jabłonie i in. Oprzędy budują między liśćmi roślin żywicielskich i zamieniają się w poczwarki o barwie czarnogranatowej z brązowymi pasami międzypierścieniowymi.
