Gatunek holocykliczny i jednodomny; w krajach subtropikalnych anholocykliczny. Migruje z trzmieliny — Evonymus europaea L. i Evonymus verrucosa Scop. na różne rośliny zielne, głównie z rodzin Solanaceae, Compositae i Polygonaceae, rzadziej inne. U nas znaleziony na Solanum nigrum L., Carduus glaucus Bmg., Rumex crispus L., Rumex acetosa L., Polygonum amphibium L., Rheum undulatum L., Pirus communis L., Rhodiola rosea L.
