Gatunek znany głównie z Europy Wschodniej oraz wschodniej części Europy Środkowej, ponadto podany z Uralu, Kirgizji i Syberii. W Polsce chrząszcz nadzwyczaj rzadko spotykany, znany z nielicznych stanowisk, przeważnie na podstawie znalezisk z ubiegłego stulecia. Bionomia słaba poznana; według Z. Stebnickiej (1976) pojawia się w okolicy Warszawy w odchodach, bydła na ciepłych stanowiskach.
