Taxon description
Gatunek szeroko rozprzestrzeniony prawie w całej Palearktyce, zawleczony poza tym do Ameryki Północnej, na północy i południu Europy sporadycznie i rzadko spotykany. W Polsce, choć nie znany jeszcze ze wszystkich krain, występuje prawdopodobnie na całym obszarze; częściej spotykany jest w okolicach podgórskich i w górach, zwłaszcza na kserotermicznych zboczach na glebach wapiennych. Postacie dorosłe ukazują się już w połowie marca w ekskrementach bydła, koni, owiec, kóz, jeleni i saren.
