Gatunek zamieszkujący głównie tereny górskie w środkowej i północnej części Europy. W Polsce notowany zaledwie z kilku stanowisk, przy czym występowanie na Śląsku Dolnym wymaga dalszych, dokładnych badań, gdyż stanowisko podane przez J. Gerhardta (1907) nie było później (1910) przez tego autora uwzględnione w spisie chrząszczy śląskich. Znajdowany przeważnie w lasach iglastych w miejscach wilgotnych, pod leżącymi wiązkami chrustu.
