Taxon description
Gatunek szeroko rozpowszechniony w prawie całej Europie z wyjątkiem krańców północnych, znany również z północnej Afryki, Kaukazu i Syberii, nadto zawleczony z balastem okrętowym do Ameryki Północnej. Żyje na miernie wilgotnych glebach próchnicznych na otwartych terenach, w jasnych lasach liściastych, niekiedy na słabo zacienionych pobrzeżach wód, ale zwykle pojedynczo spotykany. Znajdowany przeważnie wśród mchów, pod opadłymi liśćmi i między korzeniami roślin.
