Taxon description
Gatunek rozmieszczony w środkowej i południowej Europie oraz w południowej części Fennoskandii. W Polsce chrząszcz rzadko spotykany, nie łowiony u nas od kilkudziesięciu lat. Ze Śląska Dolnego znany tylko z okolic Legnicy. Stanowisko to było początkowo kwestionowane przez W. Kolbego. (1918), ale później (1921) przez tego samego autora potwierdzone. Zasiedla gliniaste, szlamowate miejsca na pobrzeżach stawów, bajorek i kałuż, rzadziej nad wodami płynącymi oraz na wilgotnych miejscach w dołach po wybranej glinie.
