Taxon description
Pierwotną ojczyzną tego gatunku jest tropikalna Azja, skąd był zawlekany do środkowej i zachodniej Afryki, Japonii, Ameryki Środkowej i południowej części Ameryki Północnej oraz na Hawaje, w których to obszarach zaaklimatyzował się. Był importowany również do niektórych krajów europejskich, w których notowano go jako szkodnika w ogrzewanych magazynach, ale nigdzie nie zadomowił się na stałe. W Polsce wykazany z trzech stanowisk, a ogólnikowa wzmianka o występowaniu na Śląsku opierała się właściwie na danych z Lubiechowa w Sudetach Zachodnich. Z uwagi na wymagania ekologiczne omawianego gatunku nie zalicza się do chrząszczy krajowych. Jako rośliny żywicielskie piśmiennictwo podaje różne gatunki wyk — Vicia L., grochów — Pisum L., fasol — Phaseolus L., soczewicę jadalną — Lens esculenta Mnch. oraz tropikalne gatunki motylkowatych — Papilionaceae.
