Taxon description
Gatunek rozsiedlony w południowej, środkowej i wschodniej części Europy, docierający na wschód do środkowej Wołgi, Uralu Południowego i dalej przez Syberię aż do Chabarowska, notowany ponadto z Azji Mniejszej, Kaukazu, Armenii, Turkmenii i północnego Iranu. W środkowej Europie jest chrząszczem ciepłolubnym, występującym na terenach nizinnych i pagórkowatych, zwłaszcza na glebach wapiennych i na nasłonecznionych zboczach. W Polsce jest chrząszczem rzadkim, znanym tylko z 7 krain, przy czym z Pobrzeża Bałtyku, Niziny Sandomierskiej, Sudetów Wschodnich i Beskidu Zachodniego notowanym na podstawie znalezisk sprzed przeszło stu lat. Występowanie Ch. sartor (O. F. Müll.) w tych krainach wymaga potwierdzenia nowymi materiałami. Pojaw postaci dojrzałych rozpoczyna, się od połowy maja i trwa do sierpnia; poławiano je na kwiatach derenia świdwy — Cornus sanguinea L., dzikich bzów — Sambucus L., krwawników — Achillea L., ostów — Carduus L. oraz na kwiatostanach baldaszkowatych — Umbelliferae. Rozwija się w martwym drewnie pni i gałęzi kasztana — Castanea Mill., dębów — Quercus L., oraz robinii akacjowej — Robinia pseudacacia L., Larwy żerują początkowo pod korą, następnie w drewnie.
