Gatunek szeroko rozpowszechniony w północnej, środkowej i wschodniej Europie, zachodniej Syberii i Ameryce Północnej. Występuje głównie na terenach bagiennych i torfowiskowych, w zarośniętych, drobnych zbiornikach wodnych.
