Taxon description

Burakowski et al. 1986a:

Gatunek kosmopolityczny, w Europie występujący niemal we wszystkich większych miastach, w północnej Europie spotykany w obszarach południowych. Z Polski notowany z pojedynczych stanowisk w czterech, krainach. Gatunek magazynowy. Występuje wśród ryżu, kukurydzy, zboża i ich przetworów, wśród ziarna kakaowego, korzeni, suchych owoców, orzeszków ziemnych oraz ich resztek i odpadów. Zarówno larwy, jak i postacie dojrzałe nie są szkodnikami, gdyż są saprofagami odżywiającymi się detrytusem, ale są niepożądanymi gośćmi przez swą obecność w produktach, żywnościowych.
