Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1987:
Gatunek szeroko rozprzestrzeniony w prawie całej Europie (prócz skrajnych obszarów północnych), wykazywany poza tym z Algierii i Syrii. W Polsce występuje na całym obszarze we właściwych dla siebie siedliskach. Zasiedla owocniki hub rosnących głównie na drzewach liściastych, rzadziej iglastych. Jako grzyby żywicielskie w piśmiennictwie były podawane: porek brzozowy — Piptoporus betulinus (Bull. ex Fr.) P. Karst. żółciak siarkowy — Laetiporus sulphureus (Bull. ex Fr.) Murr., hubiak pospolity — Fomes fomentarius (L. ex Fr.) Kickx i pniarek obrzeżony — Fomitopsis pinicola (Sw. ex Fr.) P. Karst. Cykl rozwojowy jednoroczny. Przezimowuje jako postać dojrzała. Chrząszcz charakteryzuje się silnym specyficznym zapachem.
