Gatunek opisany przed przeszło 150 laty z Austrii, ale rozsiedlenie jego jest mało poznane, gdyż przez długi czas notowany błędnie jako Dienerella separanda (Reitt.), albo nie odróżniany od Dienerella elongata (Curtis). Obecnie notowany z południowej Skandynawii, Finlandii, krajów Beneluksu, Niemiec, Austrii i Słowacji. W Polsce wykazany z pojedynczych stanowisk w dwu krainach. Według danych z piśmiennictwa występuje w suchych lasach, parkach i na krzaczastych suchych zboczach; poławiany pod pleśniejącą korą, w świeżych wiórach drzewnych i w zdartych z pni odpadach kory; w Bielinku dwa okazy złowiono na sągach bukowych, a koło Oławy 15 osobników pod korą zwalonego dębu.
