Taxon description
Gatunek obejmujący zasięgiem południową i środkową część Europy. W Polsce dość rzadko spotykany, notowany głównie z południowej części kraju. W okresie wegetacyjnym zasiedla różne gatunki drzew z rodzaju topola — Populus L., rosnące głównie na aluwiach rzecznych, przydrożach i w parkach, rzadziej w głębi lasu. Postacie dojrzałe poławiano głównie na topoli czarnej — Populus nigra L., topoli białej — P. alba L., topoli włoskiej — P. italica Mnch. oraz na pochodzącej z Ameryki Północnej, a dość często u nas sadzonej, topoli kanadyjskiej — P. serotina Hartig (syn. P. canadensis auct.). Samice składają jaja wczesną wiosną w męskie pączki kwiatowe. Larwy żerują w kwiatostanie. Młoda generacja pojawia się w maju i do końca czerwca przebywa na drzewach, gdzie żeruje na liściach, następnie przenosi się na diapauzę letnią do kryjówek w glebie i na drzewach, by znów we wrześniu i październiku przebywać w koronach drzew. Na okres zimowy dojrzałe już do rozrodu chrząszcze przewędrowują ponownie, kryjąc się w glebie, pod odstającą korę i w szczeliny w martwym drewnie.
