Taxon description
Rozsiedlony niemal w całej Europie, sięgający w Fennoskandii daleko poza koło podbiegunowe, wykazywany również z Syberii i Azji Mniejszej. W Polsce pospolity, notowany prawie ze wszystkich krain. Żyje na topoli białej — Populus alba L., topoli czarnej — P. nigra L. i topoli osice — P. tremula L. Postacie dojrzałe po przezimowaniu ukazują się na drzewach w marcu-kwietniu. Samice składają jaja do męskich pączków kwiatowych. Larwy żerują wokół części osiowej w strefie kwiatostanu. Cykl rozwojowy w ogólnym zarysie podobny do cyklu D. (D.) tortrix (L.).
