Taxon description

Burakowski et al. 1995:

Gatunek rozmieszczony w Europie, głównie w jej południowej i środkowej części; notowany też z Danii oraz z trzech południowych prowincji Szwecji. Na wschód przez Syberię dociera do Sachalinu i Japonii. W Polsce znany ze stosunkowo nielicznych stanowisk, rozmieszczonych w różnych częściach kraju. Żyje na topoli czarnej — Populus nigra L., na której zimuje pod odstającą korą i w jej szczelinach, niekiedy gromadnie. Rzadziej jest spotykany na topoli włoskiej — P. italica L., topoli osice — P. tremula L., topoli balsamicznej — P. balsamifera Mnch. i topoli kanadyjskiej — P. serotina Hartig. W marcu samice składają jaja na pączkach kwiatowych w wygryzione otwory, które zasklepiają żółtą wydzieliną. Rozwój larwalny trwa około trzech tygodni. Nowa generacja pojawia się w kwietniu-maju.
