Taxon description
Heintze 1990:
Bardzo pospolity i ze wszystkich środowisk znany motyl występuje od końca IX do V, lata nawet i zimą w czasie cieplejszych odwilży. Gąsienice po wylęgu z jaj początkowo wgryzają się w młode pędy wierzb, wiązów, topól i innych, zjadają środki łodyżek lub żerują ukryte między listkami. W stadium młodocianych żerują gromadnie, później pojedynczo. Okres ich rozwoju przypada na V, VI. Dorosłe gąsienice wykazują silne skłonności kanibalistyczne, zanikające w okresie przed zbudowaniem oprzędu. Poczwarki leżą w oprzędach na ziemi lub płytko w ziemi.
