Gatunek o niejasnym obszarze rozmieszczenia; znany dotychczas z Meklemburgii, okolic Berlina, Polski, z Węgier, Triestu, Wyżyny Rosyjskiej i Syberii Zachodniej. Wszędzie spotykany bardzo rzadko. W Polsce notowany z czterech tylko krain, przy czym z Wejherowa sprzed przeszło stu lat. Żyje na wilgotnych łąkach z rzędu Molinietalia. Obserwowano żerowanie chrząszczy na liściach sierpika barwierskiego — Serratula tinctoria L. (L. Borowiec*). Postacie dojrzałe łowi się głównie późnym latem i jesienią.
