Gatunek borealno-górski, znany z północnej Europy oraz niektórych obszarów górskich w środkowej części Europy (Sudety i Alpy Wschodnie); notowany również z Syberii. W Polsce chrząszcz nadzwyczaj rzadko spotykany. Dawne doniesienia K. Letznera i J. Gerhardta o występowaniu omawianego gatunku na Śląsku nie znalazły później potwierdzenia w spisie chrząszczy śląskich (Gerhardt 1910). Znajdowany na piaszczysto-szłamistych pobrzeżach rzek i jezior.
