Gatunek znany głównie ze środkowej Europy, ponadto notowany z Holandii, Belgii, Francji, Szwecji i północnego Bałkanu. W Polsce rzadko obserwowany. Według A. Szujeckiego (1955) omyłkowo wykazany ze Szczawnicy (J. i W. Siemaszko 1932) na podstawie błędnego oznaczenia Lathrobium (Lathrobium) volgense Hochh. Występuje na pobrzeżach rzek, strumieni i kałuż, w olszynach i na moczarach. Żyje w szczelinach gleby i pod kamieniami, wśród wilgotnych mchów i gnijących szczątków roślinnych.
