Gatunek górski, obejmujący zasięgiem Alpy, Sudety, Beskidy i zachodnie Karpaty. W Polsce chrząszcz rzadki i sporadycznie spotykany. Wątpliwości A. Horiona (1967) o danych G. Polentza (1942) odnośnie występowania omawianego gatunku w Bolkowie nie są chyba uzasadnione, gdyż miejscowość ta leży w obszarze sudeckim. Znajdowany w gnijących pieńkach świerkowych, w ściółce i wśród korzeni traw i borówki — Vaccinium L.
