Taxon description
Heintze 1990:
Spotykany pospolicie w różnych środowiskach motyl, lata od III do V. Gąsienice, występujące gromadnie, żerują na wielu gatunkach drzew liściastych, podobnie jak gąsienice P. pedaria, lecz w nieco późniejszym okresie — od V do VIII. U młodych gąsienic widoczne z boku jasne, blisko siebie położone plamki, układają się w poprzeczne pierścienie. U dorosłych — plamki są od siebie oddalone. Gąsienice zmienne w ubarwieniu, od różowych do ciemnoliliowych. Zimę gatunek przebywa w ziemi w stadium poczwarki.
