Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1995:
Gatunek rozsiedlony od północnej części Europy Południowej po Wyspy Brytyjskie, Danię i Fennoskandię, sięgający na wschód po Syberię. Chociaż wałczyk ten nie jest jeszcze znany z wielu krain, występuje prawdopodobnie w całej Polsce z wyjątkiem wyższych partii górskich. Żyje na sośnie zwyczajnej — Pinus silvestris L. i świerku pospolitym — Picea excelsa (Lam.) Lk.; postacie dojrzałe spotykano poza tym na liściach brzóz — Betula L. i olszy zielonej — Alnus viridis (Chaix) Lam. et Dc. Larwy żerują w rdzeniu młodych wierzchołkowych pędów sosny i świerka.
