Gatunek rozpowszechniony w północnej części Holarktyki, w Fennoskandii dociera do skrajnych prowincji północnych, a w górach środkowej Europy do górnej granicy lasów. Spotykany wśród mchów i grzybów na starych pniach i pieńkach, pod rozkładającymi się szczątkami roślinnymi i napływkami.
