Taxon description
Senn 2015:
Rozpoznawanie i obserwowanie: Różnice między płciami niezauważalne. U niektórych osobników czarny wzór może być intensywniejszy lub bardziej rozwinięty, a biały kolor może przybierać żółtawy odcień. Szachownica jest nie do pomylenia z żadnym innym krajowym motylem.
Rozwój motyla: Samica zrzuca jaja w pobliżu roślin pokarmowych. Gąsienica żeruje w nocy. Młode gąsienice zimują. Przepoczwarczenie odbywa się wśród suchych resztek roślin; poczwarka leży na ziemi.
Okres lotu motyla: Jedno pokolenie w roku: 3/VI – 2/VIII.
Siedliska: Tereny ruderalne, zarośla, suche i umiarkowanie wilgotne łąki, skraje lasów, przydroża i przytorza.
