Szeroko rozmieszczony w Europie; podawany także z Ameryki Północnej.
Gatunek jednodomny i holocykliczny. Żyje na młodych pędach i łodydze, latem często na ogonkach kwiatowych wrotyczu pospolitego — Tanacetum vulgare L., wyjątkowo i tylko w sąsiedztwie zaatakowanego wrotyczu, także na innych złożonych jak — Achillea erba-rota All. (hort). Kolonie tej mszycy odwiedzane są stale przez mrówki. Notowany jako wektor chorób wirusowych.
