Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1980:
Gatunek występujący głównie w południowej i środkowej Europie, ponadto wykazywany z Wysp Brytyjskich, Danii, południowych prowincji Szwecji i Finlandii oraz z Karelskiej ASRR i Maroka. W Polsce występuje podgatunek Ocypus similis semialatus J. Müll., dość pospolity w całej Polsce, nie wykazany tylko z czterech krain. Występowanie w obszarze Karpat i Sudetów wymaga zbadania. Podgatunek nominatywny, Ocypus similis similis F. rozprzestrzeniony jest w Europie południowej, ale granice areału obu podgatunków nie są poznane. Zasiedla przeważnie wilgotne, zacienione stanowiska w lasach, na torfowiskach, rzadziej spotykany na polach uprawnych i kserograficznych stokach pagórków.
