Taxon description

Burakowski et al. 1983:

Rozmieszczenie ogólne gatunku niedokładnie zbadane z powodu utrzymujących się długi czas niejasności systematycznych. Mylony często z Onthophagus taurus (Schreber), z którym występuje w tych samych środowiskach. Według V. Balthasara (1963) rozsiedlony wszędzie na ciepłych stanowiskach w środkowej i południowej części Europy, ponadto notowany z Azji Mniejszej, Syrii, Mezopotamii, Iranu i Afganistanu. W Polsce notowany tylko z trzech krain południowych. Występuje przeważnie w odchodach krów i koni.
