Gatunek rozsiedlony w Alpach Wschodnich, Karpatach oraz w górach północnej części Półwyspu Bałkańskiego. W Polsce znany z nielicznych stanowisk w czterech krainach południowych; dawna wzmianka, sprzed przeszło stu lat, o znalezieniu tego gatunku pod Warszawą, jest niewiarygodna. Spotykany w dolinach górskich na krzewach i drzewach krzaczastych, w wyższych regionach pod kamieniami. Według M. Mazura* występuje w Bieszczadach głównie na połoninach, na świerzbnicach — Knautia L., w Pieninach na leszczynie — Corylus avellaria L.
