Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1983:
Gatunek rozpowszechniony w południowej, zachodniej i środkowej części Europy, na północ sięgający do południowych części Szwecji i Finlandii, a na wschód do Azji Zachodniej i Środkowej, ponadto wielokrotnie importowany do Ameryki Północnej i prawdopodobnie już tam zadomowiony. W Polsce występuje prawdopodobnie w całym kraju, ale jest stosunkowo rzadko i sporadycznie spotykany. Poławiany od wiosny do jesieni wśród rozkładających się szczątków roślinnych, w ekskrementach, nawozie, gnijących grzybach i hubach oraz w gniazdach ssaków i ptaków. Odbywa loty w ciepłe popołudnia i wieczory.
