Taxon description
Burakowski et al. 1992:
Gatunek palearktyczny, w Europie na północ docierający do Wysp Brytyjskich, Danii, południowych obszarów Fennoskandii oraz Karelii, najdalej na wschód znanymi stanowiskami jest Petersburg i Moskwa. W Polsce chrząszcz pospolity, występujący od Bałtyku aż po Tatry, nie notowany tylko z dwu krain. Zasiedla zarówno wilgotne, jak i suche tereny, w górach sięga po kosówkę. Żeruje na szczawiu polnym — Rumex acetosella L., na którym larwa drąży krzyżujące się chodniki i wywołuje na szyjce korzeniowej lub górnych korzeniach 1-3 cm guzowate wyrosła zwykle zrastające się, rzadko występujące pojedynczo.
