Gatunek zamieszkujący głównie obszary wokół Morza Śródziemnego, z Europy Środkowej notowany z nielicznych stanowisk w krajach Beneluksu, w Niemczech i Czechach, na Słowacji i Litwie. W Polsce niedawno stwierdzony w trzech krainach. Zasiedla pola, pastwiska, ogrody, miejsca ruderalne, pobrzeża lasów i wód. Spotykany w ekskrementach zwierząt domowych i dzikich, w glebie nasiąkniętej gnojówką, nawozie, na suchej padlinie, gnijących grzybach oraz przy soku wyciekającym z pnia brzozy.
