Gatunek zamieszkujący Europę Południową oraz południową część środkowej Europy, na wschód sięgający po Ukrainę, Azję Mniejszą i Syrię. Wszędzie spotykany na ogół rzadko i sporadycznie. W środkowej Europie jest chrząszczem ciepłolubnym, występującym lokalnie na glebach wapiennych i stanowiskach kserotermicznych. W Polsce prócz Śląska Dolnego znany tylko z pojedynczych stanowisk w kilku krainach, przy czym większość danych o jego rozmieszczeniu opiera się na znaleziskach z ubiegłego wieku. Bionomia tego gatunku jest słabo poznana. Cykl rozwojowy prawdopodobnie jednoroczny lub dwuletni. Postacie dojrzałe ukazują się od połowy kwietnia i spotykano je do połowy czerwca na gałęziach, pniach i kwiatach śliwy tarniny — Prunus spinosa L. i głogów — Crataegus L.; w gałęziach tych krzewów larwy odbywają rozwój.
