Taxon description
Gatunek palearktyczny, znany z północnej Afryki, Azorów, Madery, prawie całej Europy (prócz północnej części Fennoskandii) i zachodniej Syberii. Choć tak szeroko rozmieszczony, występuje wszędzie lokalnie. Zasiedla tylko wilgotne gleby z bogatą domieszką części organicznych, żyje nad brzegami stojących wód eutroficznych, niekiedy nad zupełnie małymi kałużami, nad torfiankami i w bagiennych lasach, często w towarzystwie Carabus clatratus L.
