Taxon description
Gatunek kosmopolityczny, prawdopodobnie palearktycznego pochodzenia.
Holocykliczny i różnodomny, tworzy także rasy anholocykliczne. Migruje ze śliw — Prunus domestica L., Prunus insititia Juslen i tarniny — Prunus spinosa L., a wyjątkowo i czereśni — Cerasus avium (L.) Moench na rośliny wodne i błotne: Alisma plantago-aquatica L., Sagittaria sagittifolia L., Hydrocharis morsus-ranae L., Nuphar luteum (L.) Sm., Hippuris vulgaris L., Bidens cernuus L., Plantago maior L. Na żywicielu pierwotnym żeruje w dużych koloniach na młodych pędach i liściach i jest odwiedzany przez mrówki. Notowany jako wektor około 5 chorób wirusowych.
