Taxon description
Gatunek szeroko rozprzestrzeniony w prawie całej Palearktyce z wyjątkiem niektórych części północnych. W Polsce gatunek pospolity, występujący na otwartych terenach zarówno na niżu, jak i w górach. Łowiony w odchodach i nawozie, pod padliną małych zwierząt i gnijącymi resztkami roślinnymi, w fermentującym soku wyciekającym z drzew.
